Vernal Viridescence

True greens of every natural kind
are emerging everywhere
tantalizing the Widow Wyile’s eyes
and occupying her linguistic quest
to honour in name or description some
of the sheer variety and subtlety
of Nature’s vitality

Gazing with green eyes
she decides that green
is but a notional colour
“leaf green” tells one little
a generality that insufficiently
encompasses a trove of fascinating
and marvellous hues and shades
as the irisdescent splendour
of a drake mallard’s head
turns magic-teal
dazzles when catching light

Vernal viridescence is vast
as all lands and seas
the host of spring greens
come forth gradually for a spell
and then seemingly
    snap
burst fully
            overnight
            full      on
            green light
first pale and tender
a froth     a shoot
a spear    a frond
a bud       a bloom
then suddenly
a forking radiance
a dangling marvel
a daily changing profusion
special to each plant being
    complete viridis sense
a glut of carbon dioxide feasting
as each dons its ample summer robes
adorned with beauteous blooms
enriching air with oxygen
and heavenly scents
in a perfect precious cycle
vernal viridescence verily
       uplifts all Beings
gratefully basking in the glow
of a warming sun
seeking the names of the multitude
of verdant greens
they are seeing
yellow green   silver green     red green
golden green  dappled green
dark    light    and in between
bright at the tips         of coniferous
  deep greens
all join the lusty frog chorus
sounding with ease through the breeze
ooooooh
greens    greens    glorious greens
supporting vivacious blooms
in an increasing enormity
of fabulous swirling colours
among them variations of
trumpeting yellow heads
tinkling fairy bells
pink white hearts
and a pale blue panoply
of five perfect wee petals
each quintuplet a tiny sky
around its own central sun
singing the very purpose
of living beings
loving their Earth home
forget-not-who-you-are
radiate your unmodified
heirloom seed source
bold and beautiful
graceful and true
be living light
freely pulsing
prismatic
