Unfathomable

No matter from which end
one considers a decade
be it to come
be it all said and done
the span is unbelievable
drop in the sea of time
though it be

The concept of time unrolling
or elapsed
lived experience in all
its reality and detail
notwithstanding
procures whistful incredulity

And yet
as every widow
bereft family member
and many another
who lives ten years on knows
the unfathomable comes to pass
and here we are
on the path
of accumulating days
that may well
lead to decades
