Early Summer Salt Swims
The stillness
of sand
and sea
and sun
co-exists
with constant mo men
ve t
of water and air and light
of earth and all matter
including all parts
of our physical selves
all humming at different rates
in the symphony of photons
and myriad minute particles
doing their invisible dance
somewhere just above
just below
our awareness
in the vastness of unseen space
be yon d
the spectrum
of visible light
li mi t ing
our current vision
July has come round again
mounds of white multiflora roses abound
they and their many petalled
pink native cousins
rosa rugosa
perfume the air
a soothing and expansive scent
transporting us to all the times
we have noticed this perfection
of olfactory and visual pleasure
as we move through
or sit still
within it
And in the midst of all
this earthly wonder
the Widow Wyile practices all
her swimming strokes
including one of her own invention
amid the turgid brown waters of the basin
upon which float froth and bubbles
fomented by the incoming tide
Swallows swoop swiftly and silently
naturally and narrowly avoiding the top
of her barely protruding head
just nose and eyes above water
appreciatively marvelling
at the ever shifting scene
as it comes into being
in the sea
tepid above
frigid below
on the sand
soft and accomodating
though betimes brazier hot
under the sun
whose warm rays are welcome
upon cool wet skin
